OASIS Software

The full capabilities of the OASIS control hardware are accessed via high-level functions in our standard Windows DLL, or optionally using our ActiveX components for very quick up-time.

OASIS Control DLL

  • Managing critical set-up and maintenance tasks of the OASIS-4i controller and OASIS-AF AutoFocus module
  • Providing easy-to-use functions for positional control by employing a real-world co-ordinate system
  • Organizing functions according to application-specific tasks, such as stage control and automatic focus

OASIS Active X Controls

Optionally available are a powerful set of ActiveX controls that provide a rich set of functionality for not only basic hardware control, but also advanced scanning and user-interface elements that further simply automated applications.

For instance, to allow free movement of an XY stage via software, simply drop the Objective Imaging SoftJoystick control onto a Visual Basic form and immediately start driving!

Furthermore, the OASIS ActiveX library contains a powerful scan pattern generator, allowing immediate creation and execution of rectangular, circular, cross, random, and user defined scanning patterns.

Whether your goal is seamless integration into a flagship automated imaging system, or customized operation for a unique application, Objective Imaging's complete range of automation control software ensures you are fully utilizing the OASIS line of automation control products with minimal effort.

OASIS SmartMove Interface

OASIS Interface for Leica Microsystems SmartMove Controller

The Leica Microsystems SmartMove device provides an ergonomic manual input controller for automated XY stage and Z focus movement, used with the Leica Microsystems range of automated microscope stands.
Objective Imaging's OI-SNP interface card allows the SmartMove to be used with standard 3rd party stages and focus adaptors that are controlled via the OASIS-4i controller.

The OI-SNP allows each axis of the SmartMove to be independently configured for use with either built-in microscope control or OASIS-4i control.

Examples of configurations possible with the OI-SNP:

  • Leica DMIRE2 microscope fitted with a Prior motorized stage. By using the OI-SNP, the Prior XY stage is controlled using the XY hand controls on the SmartMove, while the Z control of the SmartMove controls the built-in DM focus motor
  • A manual microscope with retrofitted Ludl XY stage and Ludl focus motorization and OASIS-4i controller card. The OI-SNP permits full XY stage and Z focus control via the SmartMove controller

Key Features:

  • Independent configuration of each axis to allow pass-through operation of any axis to Leica microscope or OASIS-4i controller
  • Fully compatible with Leica Microsystems CTRMIC microscope interface
  • Allows SmartMove controller to be used with 3rd party stages and focus drives such as Ludl, Marzhauser, Prior, and Semprex
  • Allows standard Objective Imaging joystick unit to be used in conjunction with SmartMove

OI-SC4 Shutter Controller

The OI-SC4 is an external four-channel shutter controller designed for use with solenoid-based shutters.

Control signals may be supplied directly from the OASIS-4i controller, or any TTL-compatible input signal. Manual switches may also be fitted for direct control from the OI-SC4 front panel.

Key Features:

  • Four shutter control channels
  • Control via 4 TTL-compatible inputs
  • Control inputs can be active high or low, selectable via internal DIP-switches
  • Control signals may be output as +3.3 to +5V open collector signals if required to control other devices
  • Mains power supply 100-240V ac, 1.0A max., 50/60Hz
  • Can be fitted with manual operating switches upon request

OASIS-XA1 Fifth Axis Module

The OASIS-XA1 is a plug-in daughter module for the OASIS-4i controller that provides an extra, 5th axis in addition to those available on the standard OASIS-4i PCI card.

The OASIS-XA1 is designed to provide an additional filter axis. Coupled with the filter axis available on the OASIS-4i, the OASIS-XA1 permits dual filter changer operation, a common requirement in fluorescence microscopy.

Key Features:

  • Provides 5th axis for second filter wheel control with OASIS-4i
  • Limit and home switches supported
  • Fast filter operation at 3,200 steps per revolution
  • Daughter board to OASIS-4i for minimum footprint

OASIS-DC1 Digital Camera Trigger Interface
The Objective Imaging OASIS-DC1 is an optional plug-in daughter board for the OASIS-4i controller, providing synchronization between the OASIS-4i motion controller and various digital cameras supporting trigger output signals.

The OASIS-DC1 is the core hardware technology enabling Turboscan fast mosaic imaging for digital cameras supported by the Surveyor application solution.

Other applications of the OASIS-DC1 include implementations of fast, precise digital autofocus, as well as improved speed of 3D stack acquisition. OASIS-4i Library support includes synchronized Z-axis position readout based on OASIS-DC1 information.

Key Features:

  • Compatible with TTL, Opto, and RS-422
  • Library support for synchronized Z-axis position data
  • Daughter board to OASIS-4i for minimum footprint
  • Enables Turboscan and digital autofocus for Surveyor

OASIS-AF Video Processing Module

The Objective Imaging OASIS-AF is an optional daughter board that plugs into the Objective Imaging OASIS-4i controller, providing high performance processing of monochrome, composite, and Y/C video signals for real time calculation of degree of focus.

The OASIS-AF algorithms work in concert with the OASIS-4i controller for fast autofocus operation as well as advanced measurements such as detected field area.

Since these measurements are made directly in the automation controller at video rates, the PC software does not need to grab the image or process it further until the board has determined that the image is in focus and contains useful detail.

Scanning applications benefit greatly from the enhanced throughput provided by on-board video processing for autofocus and blank field detection.

Key Features:

  • Compatible with standard video (NTSC, PAL, SECAM)
  • Real-time autofocus information
  • Real-time blank field detection
  • Daughter board to OASIS-4i for minimum footprint
  • Programmable for user-defined settings

OASIS-4i Controller

The Objective Imaging OASIS-4i controller is a PCI compliant plug-and-play board that provides control of up to four micro-stepping motors. This allows precise movement of XY stages and focus mechanisms (the Z axis), and the fourth axis controller allows for automation of extra peripheral devices such as filter wheels.

OASIS-4i is a complete, self-contained solution. No additional power supplies are required--just install the board into a Windows PC, connect the appropriate cables and you are ready to move XY stages, focus motors, and other peripheral devices.

Various options are available to enhance the OASIS-4i for automatic focus, digital camera synchronization, as well as shutter and multiple filter wheel support.

The OASIS-4i controller is the foundation on which Objective Imaging's Surveyor with Turboscan fast mosaic imaging application solution is based.

Key Benefits:

  • Universal controller, compatible with stepper-based stages including Ludl Electronics Products, Märzhäuser Wetzlar, Prior Scientific, and Semprex
  • PCI-compliant for easy installation and high-speed interface
  • Microstepping for fast, precise operation
  • Internal to PC for small footprint
  • Low cost, no extra power supply needed
