"NASA Uses Our Custom Software Automation" |

After putting together a custom system, we needed a way to precisely control the integrated scanning system to carryout the systematic documentation of the Stardust collectors that was desired. For this purpose, we turned to Matt Batchelor of Meyer Instruments, who developed a custom application affectionately known as Aardvark. Aardvark allows us to setup up and scan a user-defined area (up to 22 inches square) of the Stardust collector – or any other samples should we so choose – all while acquiring and storing high-resolution digital images of the area being documented. Matt worked closely with the Stardust contractor team to understand the needs of the group and to develop this custom application bringing together hardware from various manufacturers and making it work in a simple and concise manner. Matt’s understanding and knowledge of our needs and goals was of great benefit to the overall success that the Stardust team experienced and had in documenting the condition of the Stardust samples upon their return to Earth, and in the various studies related to our understanding the make-up of comet Wild 2.

"The Martin's Radii Process" |

Needing to provide APIRP13e compliant screens in order to compete for business within our industry, we turned to you, Meyer Instruments, for help. We explained the Martin’s Radii information that we needed. It was a complicated process. After spending time with us learning the process required for compliance you provided us not only the equipment and basic software that we were considering, but also contracted to write custom programs for determining the data needed for the Martin’s Radii information needed API RP 13e compliance into spreadsheet format. After delivering the equipment and software you continued working with us until we were confident that the equipment and software was functioning properly. With that recommended practice now obsolete, we continue to use the equipment in examining our screens and it still functions flawlessly. Thanks for the help.

"In-Focus Rocks" |

In-Focus (Meyers instruments) software is an integral departmental research software for obtaining one-framed 3D images of Drosophila (fruit fly), Xenopus (frog) and Mus musculus (mice) transfected mutants. Our automated Leica Z16 APO with a Leica DFC300 FX camera is connected to a Dell computer with ImagePro Plus (ver 6.1) and In-Focus (ver 1.75) software. The ImagePro Plus and In-Focus operate together to acquire a series of 2-dimensional images (a Z-stack) as the motorized stereohead vertically travels at programmed distances while focusing and capturing different planes of a specimen. The resulting Z-stack can then be processed into single-framed 3D composite called an Extended View (TIFF file) or played as a movie (SEQ or AVI file). New users find the newest In-Focus version easy to use as the software prompts the user through setting the focus plane distance on the specimen and then quickly acquires the image series. The newest ImagePro Plus also quickly aligns either the entire series or selected focus planes from the series into a sharp image. One satisfied post-doc who is familiar with the older In-Focus versions described the newest In-Focus ease of use and imaging capabilities as "It rocks."
